Case Study Results: Over 75lbs of Deadlift Progress for Szee-Won

As a powerlifting coach, every now and then you lose track of time, especially with lifters that you’ve been coaching for several years. As a powerlifting coach, every now and then you lose track of time, especially with lifters that you’ve been coaching for several years.

I’ve been working with Szee-Won for about 6 years now (It’s 2023 at the time of writing this). From 2018 to 2022, she added ~80 lbs to her competition deadlift and at the time of writing this, her projected max is on track for another ~20 lb increase.

The first video here is her pulling a VERY dramatic PR deadlift of 215lbs (97.5kg) in a meet and the second one was at her first Provincials last year at the 2022 BC Powerlifting Provincial Championship in Langley, BC where she pulled a very respectable 292lb (132.5kg) deadlift.

Without going into an unnecessary level of detail, Szee has been through a LOT in the last few years and some periods of training have been very fruitful while others were simply about showing up and giving whatever you’ve got on the day but it’s that ridiculous level of consistency and hard work that keeps her lifts slowly but steadily trucking forwards.

The plan is to compete again this year in her next powerlifting competition at the end of October where I’ll of course be there in person to handle her on game day, even though we do the majority of our coaching online.

Here’s to continuing on this long term project that is the pursuit of strength ✌️

PS – If you’re looking for a simple way to hit your next PR: you should join the “Momentum Program” and become a case study. I’ll work with you 1-on-1 remotely or in person (depending on location) to develop a customized training strategy, get rid of your current pains and consistently increase your PRs.
